About ten minutes the first time. You import the scenes, pick your cams, add the dock and, if you like, link the dock to OBS. After that the whole esports broadcast runs from the dock.
OBS Studio 28 or newer. Older versions have no Docks menu for web pages and no WebSocket built in.
Unzip the package anywhere you like. Right click the zip, Extract All, press Extract. Then open this page from that folder, not from inside the zip.
Save your current setup first. In OBS: Scene Collection, Export. Nothing below deletes it.
1 Import the scenes
In OBS open Scene Collection, then Import.
Press the ... button, go to the folder above and pick Retro_Arcade_Scene_Collection.json. Make sure it is ticked, then press Import.
Open Scene Collection again and choose Retro Arcade Broadcast.
Pick the file from inside the package folder. OBS uses the folder the file is in to find every screen, so it works wherever you unzipped it. Moved the folder later? Import it again from the new place.
Starting Soon
Big title, countdown, the match up and the ticker.
Intro Video
Your own intro video, if you have one. Double click Intro Video in OBS and pick the file.
Caster Desk
Cam 1 and Cam 2 with name bars, series score under them.
Match Up
Both teams, logos, series score and both lineups.
Head to Head
Both teams side by side: logo, name and roster, with the series in the middle. Nothing to type.
Draft
The Retro Arcade draft from SMITE 2 Production Studio, with Fearless vault and lineups.
Draft Recap
Both teams' picks and bans with the series score, in this package's look.
In Game
The SMITE 2 spectator view with small team plates beside the game's own score bar and an optional lower third. Nothing in the corners, so the minimap, objective timer, team lists, gold and stats table stay clear.
Post Game
The game's end screen in a frame, the result and the series score.
Post Game Stats
Your two cams, then a stats board for both teams once the post game screenshots are read and you press Show. The dock's POST GAME STATS box says where the stats stand.
Victory
The team that won, full screen: its logo, the big word, what it won and the score. Plays each time you switch to it.
Interview
One big cam with a name bar and the series beside it.
Be Right Back
Pause screen with an optional countdown.
Series Tracker
Every game of the series: both teams' picks and who won each one.
Bracket
Single or double elimination, Swiss or groups, any team count, in four looks. Set it up under BRACKET in the dock; winners move on by themselves.
Schedule
Up to six matches with times, LIVE and FINAL scores.
Thanks for Watching
Final series score, what is up next and your socials.
Screens that are not on air shut down and everything runs at 30 fps, so OBS only works on the scene you are showing. Each screen slides in when you switch to it.
2 Pick your cams and the game
Cam 1 and Cam 2 are empty to start. Double click each one and pick a camera. They already sit under the right windows in Caster Desk and Interview, and setting one sets it in every scene.
Casters on a call? Swap a cam for a browser source (VDO.Ninja and the like): add it to the scene, then right click it, Transform, Edit Transform, and copy the position and size from the cam it replaces.
SMITE 2 captures the game window (In Game and Post Game). Start the game once so OBS can find it.
Intro Video (optional) plays your own intro: double click it and pick the video file. It starts from the beginning each time you switch to its scene.
Desktop Audio and Mic use your default devices. Change them by double clicking.
3 Add the dock
In OBS open the Docks menu (in some versions it is under View, then Docks) and choose Custom Browser Docks.
Press Apply and close the window. Drag the dock where you want it.
Click through a few scenes. The top of the dock should say how many screens are open.
The address above is the easy way. A plain path to controller.html works too, like C:\Users\You\Desktop\Retro-Arcade-Package\controller.html (leave out any " marks): when the dock opens inside OBS it moves itself to the right address, so it shares its settings with the screens.
4 Link the dock to OBS (optional)
This gives the dock scene buttons, and it sends every change to the screens through OBS too, so they always follow the dock.
In OBS open Tools, WebSocket Server Settings. Tick Enable WebSocket server and press Apply.
Press Show Connect Info and copy the Server Password.
In the dock open OBS LINK AND SETUP at the bottom, paste the password and press Link OBS. The chip at the top turns to OBS linked.
The dock remembers it and links again by itself next time.
5 Running a match
The dock runs top to bottom in the order of a broadcast: SET UP first (teams, logos, casters, OBS), then 1 Starting Soon, 2 Intro video, 3 Caster Desk, 4 Sponsors, ad reads and info, 5 Match Up, 6 Picks and bans, 7 In Game, 8 Post Game and 9 Be Right Back. Steps 6 to 9 repeat for every game. After the games: 10 Bracket, 11 Extra stuff (Schedule) and 12 Thanks for Watching. The step buttons at the top of the dock jump to each step; with the dock linked to OBS, the step on stream says ON AIR.
MATCH: type both team names. Order is player one on the left in cyan, Chaos is player two on the right in yellow. Add a tag (the short name on the scorebug) and a logo if you have one. Teams are remembered with their tag, logo and lineup, so next time just type the name.
TEAM ROSTERS (under Match Up, laid out like the site panel): five players per team, Solo, Jungle, Mid, Support and Carry. To fill a team at once, paste a list into its Solo box (one name a line, or names split by commas); ten names in Order's Solo box fill both teams. They show on Match Up, Head to Head and in the draft's roster boxes. Player names never go on god cards.
DESK AND CAMS: names and handles for the name bars on Caster Desk and Interview.
SCHEDULE, STARTING SOON, BE RIGHT BACK, THANKS: the text on those screens. Countdowns use 24 hour time.
SPONSORS: add logos for a strip on Starting Soon and Be Right Back. White or black boxes go behind logos that need them.
TICKER: a line along the bottom of the full screens. It scrolls by itself when the text is long.
HEAD TO HEAD: the title and the line under it. The cards fill in from MATCH and TEAM ROSTERS.
DRAFT: type a god and press Enter, it goes into the next pick or ban. After the game press Game done to save the picks to the Fearless vault and move to the next game. New series starts over.
IN GAME: the scorebug shows team tags (or full names). The lower third shows a big and a small line on the game, at the top, left or bottom. Fill with the casters and Fill with the match type it for you.
Order won this game / Chaos won this game: (in POST GAME, after every game) adds the point and sets the winner on Post Game. The plus and minus buttons fix mistakes. The small boxes beside each score (win pips) fill in as games are won.
POST GAME STATS: paste or drop the two post game screenshots (scoreboard and stats page). This PC reads the numbers, the Post Game Stats scene keeps your casters on until they are ready, then the board shows. Back to the casters takes it off.
SERIES TRACKER: who won each game. The win buttons fill it in; change a game here and the score follows.
Next match from the bracket (in MATCH): saves this series' result in the bracket and loads the next match's teams on every screen.
Performance mode: the switch at the top stops all movement on every screen. Turn it on if the stream drops frames.
MUSIC: the package's own music plays on Starting Soon, Be Right Back, Thanks for Watching and Victory. Turn it off or set the volume here. It is free to use on stream and in VODs.
6 The stinger
Retro Arcade Stinger is already the scene transition. Switch scenes and it plays: big pixel blocks fill the screen from both sides, flashing cyan and yellow as they land, a white pixel ring bursts in the middle, then the blocks blink away. It has its own 8-bit sound.
If it ever goes missing: in Scene Transitions press +, pick Stinger, choose media\RA_Stinger.webm from the package and set Transition Point to 560 milliseconds.
Fixes
Screens are black.
Go down this list, checking after each one.
Open Scene Collection and make sure Retro Arcade Broadcast is the one ticked.
Did OBS show a Missing Files box? The scene file was picked from somewhere else, like Downloads. Do step 1 again and pick the file from inside the package folder.
In OBS open Settings, Advanced. Under Sources untick Enable Browser Source Hardware Acceleration, press OK and restart OBS.
Still black? Press this button. It makes a scene file with the full address of this folder written in. Import that one (it is in your Downloads) and pick the newest Retro Arcade Broadcast.
The folder shown in step 1 is wrong?
Type it, then press the button again. The dock address in step 3 changes too.
The dock says "No screens open", or the screens do not change.
The dock address points at a different folder than the screens. In OBS open Docks, Custom Browser Docks and put in the address from step 3 of this page, opened from the package folder. Then right click a screen in OBS and press Refresh. If the dock is linked to OBS it also shows a yellow box with a button that points the screens at the dock.
OBS will not link.
Make sure the WebSocket server is enabled and the password is the one from Show Connect Info. The address is ws://127.0.0.1:4455 unless you changed the port.
A cam window is empty.
Double click Cam 1 or Cam 2 and pick a device (step 2). Check its eye is on in that scene.
The scorebug covers something in the game.
The team plates sit either side of the game's own score bar, made for the SMITE 2 spectator view at 1920x1080. If your game layout differs, click RA In Game in the In Game scene and move it with the arrow keys.
